The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

92 - THE NAZIRITE TO LET HIS HAIR GROW

Numbers 6:5 -- “All the days of the vow of his separation no razor shall come upon his head; until the days are fulfilled for which he separated himself to the LORD, he shall be holy. Then he shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.”

The sanctity of the Nazirite, “which is regarded as equal to that of the high priest”* is due, in the opinion of Maimonides, to his abstaining from the pleasures of life, such as cutting his hair, drinking wine, etc. “For the chief object of the Law is to (teach man to) diminish his desires, and to cleanse his outer appearance after he has purified his heart.”**

* Moreh Nebuchim III, 48
** ibid., 33
