The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

94 - ALL ORAL COMMITMENTS TO BE FULFILLED

Deuteronomy 23:23 --That which has gone from your lips you shall keep and perform, for you voluntarily vowed to the LORD your God what you have promised with your mouth.”
Numbers 30:2 -- “If a man vows a vow to the LORD, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.”

One may also vow to train oneself in temperance, to control the appetite for eating, drinking, etc. It is with such vows in view that the sages say: “Vows are a fence for abstinence.”*
