The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

155 - PROCLAIMNING THE SANCTITY OF THE SABBATH

Exodus 20:8 -- "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”

“The sages of old were wont to assemble their disciples, and robed (in special garments for the occasion) would say, ‘Come, let us go forth to meet the king – the Sabbath.’” *

* Mishneh Torah, Zmanim, Hilchoth Shabbath XXX, 2

The term “delight” in Isaiah’s statement: And call the Sabbath a delight, the holy day of the LORD honorable (Isaiah 58:13) implies the kindling of lights at the approach of sunset on the Sabbath eve – a prerogative primarily belonging to the mother of the household* - the enjoyment of special delicacies, and a minimum provision of three Sabbath meals.**

* ibid., V, 3
** ibid., XXX, 9
