The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

162 - RESTING ON SHEVUOTH

Leviticus 23:21 --And you shall proclaim on the same day that it is a holy convocation to you. You shall do no customary work on it. It shall be a statute forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.”

According to Tradition, this festival commemorates the Revelation of Mount Sinai, which was “the aim and object of the Exodus from Egypt.”*

* Moreh Nebuchim III, 43

The recital of the Kiddush and Havdalah services at the commencement and termination of the Sabbath in remembrance thereof is Scripturally binding only in the case of the Sabbath, but by ordinance of the sages also in the case of all Scripturally ordained festivals.*
