The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 2 - The 365 Prohibitions of the Tora

69 - A PRIEST WITH BLEMISH ENTERING ANY PART OF THE SANCTUARY

Leviticus 21:23 -- “Only he shall not go near the veil or approach the altar, because he has a defect, lest he profane My sanctuaries; for I the LORD sanctify them.”

It is explained at the beginning of Tohorot that one who has a blemish, or whose hair is unloosed, is forbidden to enter the space between the Porch and the Altar, or any part of the Sanctuary.*

* Kelim I, 9 (Sonc. ed. p. 2)

On his part, Maimonides indicates clearly that one who willfully goes beyond the Altar is liable to whipping, even if he does not enter for the purpose of ministering.*

* Abodah, Hilchoth Biath ha-Mikdash I, 15
