74 - A ZAR MINISTERING IN THE SANCTUARY


Numbers 18:4 -- “They shall be joined with you and attend to the needs of the tabernacle of meeting, for all the work of the tabernacle; but an outsider shall not come near you.”

A zar* was permitted to perform the following services: the slaughtering, flaying, and dismembering of both public and private sacrifices; the carrying of wood to the altar; and the kindling of the lamps of the Menorah, in case the Menorah was removed by a priest from the sanctuary and taken to the Court of the Israelites.**

* Anyone who is not of the seed of Aaron
