According to the Torah, the law regarding the tithe of cattle applies whether the Temple is in existence or not. The sages, however, ruled that now there is no Sanctuary, the tithe of cattle should not be set aside, since one might eat of its flesh if the beast had not had a blemish, in which case one would be liable to extinction for having slaughtered it outside the Sanctuary Court.* * See Neg.
