142 - CONSUMING THE UNREDEEMED SECOND TITHE OF WINE OUTSIDE JERUSALEM

Deuteronomy 12:17 -- “You may not eat within your gates the tithe of your grain or your new wine or your oil, of the firstlings of your herd or your flock, of any of your offerings which you vow, of your freewill offerings, or of the heave offering of your hand.”

One who eats of the unredeemed second tithe before it has been brought to Jerusalem is not liable to whipping, even though, by failing to redeem it before eating it, he has transgressed a positive commandment.*
