Home -- Content: Series 7 (Laws) -- Translation: English -- Book: 1 (Tora) -- Part: 2 (Negative) -- Prohibition: 170 -- Text The Sharia of Moses in the TORA 170 - LEVITES SHARING IN THE SPOIL ON THE CONQUEST OF THE LAND OF ISRAELDeuteronomy 18:1-2 -- 1 “The priests, the Levites--all the tribe of Levi--shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel; they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and His portion. 2 Therefore they shall have no inheritance among their brethren; the LORD is their inheritance, as He said to them.”
Numbers 18:20 -- “Then the LORD said to Aaron: "You shall have no inheritance in their land, nor shall you have any portion among them; I am your portion and your inheritance among the children of Israel.”
Leviticus 21:5 -- “They shall not make any bald place on their heads, nor shall they shave the edges of their beards nor make any cuttings in their flesh.”
The object of this commandment is stated by the author of the “Sefer ha-Chinuch” as follows: “It is not fitting for servants of the Lord to make use of things which they have taken by force. Only things that have peacefully, fairly, and honestly acquired can enter the House of God, not those acquired by means which have brought sorrow to the heart of any man or women.”* * Comm. 55
