Home -- Content: Series 7 (Laws) -- Translation: English -- Book: 1 (Tora) -- Part: 2 (Negative) -- Prohibition: 199 -- Text The Sharia of Moses in the TORA 199 - EATING CHAMETZ AFTER THE MIDDLE OF THE FOURTEENTH OF NISANDeuteronomy 16:3 -- “You shall eat no leavened bread with it; seven days you shall eat unleavened bread with it, that is, the bread of affliction (for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste), that you may remember the day in which you came out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life”.
Exodus 12:6 -- “Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight.”
In the Gemara of Pesahim we read: “How do we know that one who eats chametz from six hours (i.e. noon) and onwards transgresses a negative commandment? From the verse, You shall eat no leavened bread with it.”* In the same tractate we also read: “All agree that chametz is Scripturally forbidden from six hours and onwards.”** * Pes. 28b (Sonc. ed. p. 131)
