The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 2 - The 365 Prohibitions of the Tora

215 - SOWING KILAYIM *

* I.e. sowing diverse kinds of seed, as wheat with oats, in one field. Also referred to as kilai zera’im

Leviticus 19:19 -- “You shall keep My statutes. You shall not let your livestock breed with another kind. You shall not sow your field with mixed seed. Nor shall a garment of mixed linen and wool come upon you.”

Sowing kilai zera’im is prohibited only in the Land of Israel; and one who sows them there is Scripturally liable to whipping.

The prohibition of kilai zera’im applies only to seeds fit for human consumption; and species of herbs, which are used primarily for medicinal purposes, do not come within the terms of this prohibition.*

* Zera’im, Hilchoth Kilaim I, 4
