The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 2 - The 365 Prohibitions of the Tora

217 - MATING ANIMALS OF DIFFERENT SPECIES

Leviticus 19:19 -- “You shall keep My statutes. You shall not let your livestock breed with another kind. You shall not sow your field with mixed seed. Nor shall a garment of mixed linen and wool come upon you.”

By this prohibition, it is forbidden to mate animals of different kinds. The penalty for doing this is whipping. By Rabbinical law, any act which may cause cattle to mate with an unlike kind is likewise forbidden.*

* Mishneh Torah, Zera’im, Hilchoth Kilaim IX, 1

“Our sages teach us that we ought not to look at beasts or birds in the moment of their copulation. According to my opinion, this is the reason the crossbreeding of cattle is prohibited. It is a fact that animals of different species do not copulate together, unless by force… Our Law therefore, objected to any person’s degrading himself by doing theses things, which require so much vulgarity and indecency.”*

* Moreh Nebuchim III, 49
