The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 2 - The 365 Prohibitions of the Tora

241 - TAKING A PLEDGE FROM A WIDOW

Deuteronomy 24:17 -- “You shall not pervert justice due the stranger or the fatherless, nor take a widow's garment as a pledge.”

By this prohibition, it is forbidden to take a pledge from a widow, whether she be poor or rich.

The Mishnah says: “A pledge may not be taken from a widow whether she is poor or rich, for it is written, nor take a widow's garment as a pledge.”*
