267 - A HIRED LABORER EATING GROWING CROPS

Deuteronomy 23:25 -- “When you come into your neighbor's standing grain, you may pluck the heads with your hand, but you shall not use a sickle on your neighbor's standing grain.”

One who works on growing crops, as for instance in reaping or cutting, is not permitted to eat until after his work is finished, that is, after the harvesting of the crop; but one who works on produce already gathered may eat before his work is finished, because afterwards the produce is liable to tithe.*
