295 - ACCEPTING A RANSOM FROM ONE WHO HAS COMMITTED WILLFUL MURDER

Deuteronomy 35:31 --Moreover you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death, but he shall surely be put to death.”

“Even if he is prepared to give all the treasure in the world, and even if the next of kin of the murdered man is willing to absolve him, the court is forbidden to accept the ransom. For the soul of the murdered man belongs not to the next of kin, but to the Holy One, blessed be He.”*
