17. Understanding Islam
SECTION THREE: UNDERSTANDING THE MUSLIM CHRIST
CHAPTER SIX: CHRIST IN ISLAM

6.8. Christ Knowing the future

The Qur’an teaches that only Allah knows the future and that which is unseen. Yet elsewhere it says that Jesus also knows these things, suggesting that either the Qur’an is incorrect when it says only Allah knows them, or Jesus is Allah! The Qur'an says:

“[He (Allah) is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone, except whom He has approved of messengers.” (Qur’an 72:26-27)

Throughout the Qur’an the “exception” only applied to Christ and no one else.

“And indeed, Isa will be [a sign for] knowledge of the Hour, so be not in doubt of it, and follow Me. This is a straight path.” (Qur’an 43:61)

This verse is ambiguous in the original Arabic; some commentators take this verse to mean that Christ is a sign of the day of judgement, others say it means he knows when it will happen, and there are still other interpretations. Any of these interpretations is possible and feasible.
