10.3 - Adam in Genesis 3

190 - Adam 15 - The LORD God condemned the snake

Texts -- BIBLE: Genesis 3:14-15 ---- OMITTED in KORAN

Contrast 1 -- BIBLE: Yahweh then turned to the snake and pronounced his judgment on it, “Because you have done this (i.e. seduced the woman), cursed are you among all animals. On your belly you will go and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.” -- KORAN: This is totally OMITTED in the Koran. NOT the snake caused the sin of Adam, but Satan himself. Also, Allah does NOT judge Satan for causing Adam and his mate to slip and act against Allah's commandment. >> Meaning >> BIBLE: By making the snake responsible for the seduction of Eve, Yahweh in part vindicated Eve, who had told him that she was seduced. He does not give the snake any chance of explaining its version of events. Instead a curse is pronounced against the snake in that Yahweh caused it to crawl on its belly and eat dust. As such the snake becomes a most despicable animal. -- KORAN: Since Adam and his mate acknowledged their sin voluntarily as good Muslims, there is NO need to vindicate them. Allah had warned them of Satan and it was their own fault. Therefore, Allah did NOT judge Satan separately for causing Adam and his mate to sin. On the contrary, as we have seen in Unit 8 above (in Addition Example 1, Steps 118 to 137), Allah had agreed with the Devil, that he has the job of seducing humans until the Day of Judgment.

Contrast 2 -- BIBLE: Yahweh then went on to announce a future judgment, “I put enmity between you and her and between your offspring and her (single) offspring. He will trample upon your head and you will snatch or shatter his heel.” -- KORAN: This prophecy about future events was totally OMITTED in the Koran. Allah does NOT put enmity between Satan and his offspring and the woman and her (single) offspring. And Allah does NOT indicate that the offspring of the woman will trample on Satan's head. >> Meaning >> BIBLE: In spite of Eve falling into sin, there is still a rest of God's image at work in her. By setting enmity between the snake and the woman, Yahweh upholds the image of God, according to which she was created. Even though it succeeded in seducing the woman, the snake has no power in itself over the woman, rather the woman will hate and mistrust the snake forever as her enemy. The one single offspring of the woman that Yahweh predicted here is a prophecy about Christ and the work of salvation that he will accomplish: on the cross Christ trampled upon the head of the snake (i.e. subdued the snake) in the moment, in which the snake succeeded in snatching or shattering his heel (by causing him to die on the cross). It was only a shattering of the heel, because the snake did not succeed in destroying Christ completely, for he rose from the dead three days later., conquering Satan. -- KORAN: All of this was OMITTED in the Koran. Adam's mate was NOT created in the image of Allah, therefore there was NO enmity set up between Satan and her. Also, there is NO prediction that there will be one offspring of the woman, who will trample on the head of Satan, because Allah SUPPRESSED the fact of Christ's death on the cross and of his resurrection from the dead in the Koran. By OMITTING this detail of God's judgment over Satan, the Koran makes it IMPOSSIBLE to see the cross of Christ prefigured in the account about the fall of Eve into sin.
