The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

79 - SANCTIFYING THE FIRST-BORN

Exodus 13:2 -- "Consecrate to Me all the firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and beast; it is Mine."
Exodus 13:13 -- “But every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb; and if you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. And all the firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem.”
Deuteronomy 14:23 -- “And you shall eat before the LORD your God, in the place where He chooses to make His name abide, the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil, of the firstborn of your herds and your flocks, that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.”

Maimonides’ contention is only that according to the Torah the commandment is not binding outside the Land of Israel. He admits that by Rabbinic ordinance the law of the firstling of a beast is binding outside the Land.
