249 - SWEARING FALSELY IN REPUDIATING A DEBT

Leviticus 19:11-12 -- 11 “You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another. 12 And you shall not swear by My name falsely, nor shall you profane the name of your God: I am the LORD.”

The provisions of this commandment are explained in the fifth chapter of Shebuoth, where it is made clear that one who swears falsely in repudiation of a debt transgresses two negative commandments: you shall not swear by My name falsely,* and nor lie to one another.
