The Sharia of Christ in the GOSPEL
F - Commandments of Christ related to our Duties towards God (WORSHIP)
7. SPREADING THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (OR: HOLY WAR WITHOUT WEAPONS AND DECEPTION)
Matthew 4:19-25 -- 19
Then He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.
They immediately left their nets and followed Him. 21
Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. And He called them
and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him. 23
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people
Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them
Great multitudes followed Him -- from Galilee, and from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.
Matthew 5:5.7.9-12 -- 5 Blessed are the meek
, for they shall inherit the earth. … 7 Blessed are the merciful
, for they shall obtain mercy. … 9 Blessed are the peacemakers
, for they shall be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake
, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Matthew 5:13-16 -- 13 You are the salt of the earth
; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14 You are the light of the world.
A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 6:9-13 -- 9 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power
and the glory forever. Amen.
Matthew 6:33-34 -- 33
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness
, and all these things shall be added to you. 34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow
, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matthew 7:6 -- Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine
, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.
Matthew 9:36-38 -- 36
But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them
, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37
Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38
Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest
Matthew 10:1.5-20 -- 1
And when He
had called His twelve disciples
to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal
all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. … 5
These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them
, saying: "Do not go
into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter
a city of the Samaritans. 6
But go rather
to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7
And as you go, preach, saying
, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' 8
the sick, cleanse
the lepers, raise
the dead, cast out
demons. Freely you have received, freely give
. 9 Provide neither
gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts, 10 nor
bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food. 11
Now whatever city or town you enter, inquire who
in it is worthy, and stay there
till you go out. 12
And when you go into a household, greet
If the household is worthy, let
your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let
your peace return to you. 14
And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off
the dust from your feet. 15
Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city! 16 Behold, I send you out
as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise
as serpents and harmless
as doves. 17
But beware of men
, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues. 18
You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. 19
But when they deliver you up, do not worry
about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; 20
for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father
who speaks in you.
Matthew 10:21-23,28-37.40.42 -- 21
Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. 22
And you will be hated by all for My name's sake
. But he who endures to the end will be saved
. 23 When they persecute you in this city, flee to another
. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. … 28
And do not fear
those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear
Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29
Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will. 30
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered
. 31 Do not fear
therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. 32
"Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven
But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. 34 Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35
For I have come to 'set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law'; 36
and 'a man's enemies will be those of his own household.' 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. …
40 He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me
. … 42
And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward
Luke 10:17-20 -- 17
Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name." 18
And He said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven
Matthew 13:3-9 -- 3
Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: "Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4
And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside
; and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Some fell on stony places
, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. 6
But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. 7
And some fell among thorns
, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. 8
But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop
: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9
He who has ears to hear, let him hear
Matthew 13:31-35 -- 31
Another parable He put forth to them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed
, which a man took and sowed in his field, 32
which indeed is the least of all the seeds
; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree
, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches." 33
Another parable He spoke to them: "The kingdom of heaven is like leaven
, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened
All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them, 35
that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things kept secret
from the foundation of the world."
Matthew 13:24-30.37-43 -- 24
Another parable He put forth to them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field
but while men slept,
among the wheat and went his way. 26
But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27
So the servants of the owner came and said to him, 'Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?' 28
"He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.' The servants said to him, ' Do you want us then to go and gather them up?
But he said, 'No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest
, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, "
, but gather the wheat into my barn." ' … 37
He answered and said to them: "He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38
The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but
, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. 40
Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. 41
The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, 42
and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43
Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear
Matthew 13:47-50 -- 47
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea
and gathered some of every kind, 48
which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw
So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate
from among the just, 50
. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 14:14-21 -- 14
And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them
, and healed their sick. 15
When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food." 16
But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.
And they said to Him, "We have here only five loaves and two fish." 18
He said, "Bring them here to Me.
Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down
on the grass. And He took
the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave
the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave
to the multitudes. 20
So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. 21
Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
John 8:12 --
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.
Luke 15:4-7 -- 4
What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it
And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6
And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ' Rejoice with me
, for I have found my sheep which was lost
I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
John 10:16 --
And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I MUST bring, and they will hear My voice
; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.
Matthew 18:18-20 -- 18
Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven
, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven
Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask
, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven
For where two or three are gathered together in My name
, I am there in the midst of them
Matthew 19:12 --
For there are eunuchs who were born thus from their mother's womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it
Matthew 21:28-31 -- 28
"But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to
and said, ' Son, go, work today in my vineyard.
He answered and said, 'I will not,' but afterward he regretted it and went
Then he came to
and said likewise. And he answered and said, 'I go, sir,' but he did not go
. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father
?" They said to Him, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.
Matthew 21:33- 44 -- 33
"Hear another parable
: There was a certain landowner
who planted a vineyard
and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers
and went into a far country. 34
Now when vintage-time drew near, he sent his servants
to the vinedressers, that they might receive its fruit. 35
Again he sent other servants
, more than the first, and
Then last of all he sent his son to them
, saying, 'They will respect my son.' 38
But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, 'This is the heir.
Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vinedressers?" 41
They said to Him, "He will destroy those wicked men miserably, and lease his vineyard to other vinedressers who will render to him the fruits in their seasons." 42
Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: ' The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone
. This was the LORD's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? 43
Therefore I say to you,
and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. 44
John 17:20-21 -- 20
I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word
that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me
Luke 14:16-24 -- 16
Then He said to him, "A certain man gave a great supper and invited many
and sent his servant
at supper time to say to those who were invited, ' Come, for all things are now ready.
with one accord
. The first said to him, 'I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.' 19
And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.' 20
Still another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.' 21
So that servant
came and reported these things
to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ' Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.
And the servant said, 'Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room
Then the master said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24
For I say to you that
Matthew 23:13 --
But woe to you
; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.
Matthew 24:11-14 -- 11
But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations
, and then the end will come.
Matthew 24:20 --
that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.
Matthew 26:52 --
But Jesus said to him, "Put your sword in its place
, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword
Matthew 28:5-10 -- 5
But the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid
, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6
He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see
the place where the Lord lay. 7
And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold
, I have told you." 8
So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word
And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, "Rejoice!
" So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. 10
Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren
to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me."
Matthew 28:16-20 -- 16
Then the eleven disciples went
away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them
When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. 18
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples
of all the nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THINGS THAT I HAVE COMMANDED YOU
; and lo
, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
John 20:21-23 -- 21
So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.
And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.
Acts 1:7-8 -- 7 And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
He who skims through the four Gospels and scrutinizes their contents with care, finds that the greatest number of the commandments and instructions of Jesus are centered on propagating the faith in the unity of the Holy Trinity, also in propagating the gospel, and doing charitable deeds associated with the good news of salvation, rather than on principles of worship, or on other duties incumbent on man. Jesus knew that man cannot regenerate himself, but that he can only be regenerated by the power of his word. Therefore, the word of God must reach every part of our world. Without the good news of salvation in Christ, the people remain dead in sins and hopeless. The name and the words of Jesus have the power to raise the dead.
The whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. Therefore the followers of Jesus must take the sheep from the ravages of the original wolf, the wicked one. Preaching is not a calming walk before sunset. It is a struggle between death and life, between evil and good (Ephesians 6:10-20). The devil is older than us, and he knows the weakness in man. He who does not abide in Jesus, throwing away all his own dignity, and listening continuously to the word of Jesus, cannot cope with this struggle without being harmed.
He who studies the commandments of Christ to preach the word, finds that mutual love and forbearance among the working servants, together with their effect on their hearers, as well as steadfast prayer bring about the victories of Christ. The wind blows where it wishes. Thus we must get up and run when the Lord opens doors to service, and we must seek the guidance of the Spirit of the Lord when he enables us to speak to someone who hungers for righteousness and truth. Preaching requires a community of faith, prayer, thanksgiving, and contributions from believers. Jesus does not ask all the members of the church to go from town to town preaching, but he separates individuals whom he calls to work in distant places, and to suffer weary travels. Such services are not founded on romantic imaginations, but the servant is required to study the different languages, and to act in accordance with the customs of everyday life in the land where he serves, that he may be to the Jews like a Jew, and to the Greeks as a Greek.
In the beginning of his ministerial work, Jesus confessed that his Father sent only him to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. But when they had refused him, he declared that his Gospel should go beyond the extent of his nation (Isaiah 49:6), and after his resurrection from the dead, he commanded that the whole world should be reached based on the reconciliation of the world to God on the cross. Today, we admit shamefully that we can only call one third of the world Christians. The missionary work has not ended yet, and the greater part of the task is still ahead of us as we wait for the coming of the Lord. "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." (Matthew 9:37-38)
