Texts -- BIBLE: Genesis 2:18-25 ---- CHANGED in KORAN: This biblical passage has been taken up in the Koran in multiple passages, however not in the context, in which the Bible relates this passage. Here are the parallels: a) Naming living beings: Sura al-Baqara 2:30-33 -- b) Creation of the woman: Suras al-Nisa' 4:1a; al-A'raf 7:189; al-Rum 30:21; al-Zumar 39:6 and al-Shura 42:11 -- c) The relationship between man and woman: Suras al-Rum 30:21 and al-A'raf 7:189 -- d) The hidden nakedness of Adam and his wife: Sura 7:20

Contrast 1 -- BIBLE: Adam named all creatures, which Yahweh brought to him. -- KORAN: Allah taught Adam all names (no creatures are mentioned) >> Meaning >> BIBLE: This is one foundation of science in the Bible: Adam compared and contrasted what he saw and actively invented names that characterized what he saw. -- KORAN: The foundation of science in the Koran is DIFFERENT: you must accept passively, what Allah teaches you; you are NOT given the possibility to research and invent names on your own.

Contrast 2 -- BIBLE: NO angels appear here and Adam is NOT commanded by God to reveal names to angels. -- KORAN: Angels did not know the names that Allah taught Adam and Allah commanded Adam to reveal these names to angels. >> Meaning >> BIBLE: There is NO source of occultism here in the Bible, because Adam was NOT commanded by God to teach angels. -- KORAN: This is one of the sources of occult dealings with angels in the Koran, because Allah explicitly commanded Adam to reveal the names, which Allah had taught him, to angels.

Contrast 3 -- BIBLE: No helper was found for Adam among the animals, which God made. -- KORAN: There is NO mention of a helper for Adam. >> Meaning >> BIBLE: Women and men form a unit of cooperation, the woman helps Adam in his work given to him in the Garden of Eden (2:15), i.e. she is also invited to work the garden and keep it, like Adam. -- KORAN: There is NO such unit of cooperation for men and women in the Koran, because there is no work for Adam to do in the Jannah garden.

Contrast 4 -- BIBLE: Yahweh built the woman from the rib of the sleeping Adam. Adam acknowledged her as being “flesh of my flesh”. -- KORAN: Allah made the woman from the soul of Adam, who was NOT sleeping. Adam did NOT react to this act of creation by Allah, i.e. Adam did NOT acknowledge the woman.

Contrast 5 -- BIBLE: Adam called her “wo-man” (in Hebrew “ishaa”, which is the female form of “ish” = “man”), because she was taken from man. -- KORAN: Adam does NOT give her a designation, because only Allah can teach names. >> Meaning >> BIBLE: Women are taken seriously in the Bible and called by name there. We find the names of many women in the Bible. -- KORAN: Women are taken LESS seriously in the Koran than in the Bible and are NEVER called by name. This is why we find NO names of women in the Koran, with the one exception of Maryam, the mother of Christ.

Contrast 6 -- BIBLE: Yahweh says about man and woman “they will be one flesh”. -- KORAN: Allah says about man and woman “so that you (men) cohabit with them”. >> Meaning >> BIBLE: Man and woman in marriage constitute an indissoluble unity. Therefore, Yahweh does not prescribe divorce in the Bible. -- KORAN: Man and woman in marriage do NOT constitute an indissoluble unity. Therefore, Allah prescribes divorce in the Koran.

Contrast 7 -- BIBLE: Yahweh says, “the man will leave father and mother and will cleave to his woman.” -- KORAN: Allah does NOT say that the man will leave his parents. Also, the man will NOT cleave to his woman, rather Allah says about man and woman “they have affection and mercy towards each other”.

Contrast 8 -- BIBLE: They were both naked but NOT ashamed. -- KORAN: Some of their shame (lit. “bad parts” saw'atihimaa) was hidden from them (7:20). They are NOT described as being naked.
