Home -- Content: Series 7 (Laws) -- Translation: English -- Book: 1 (Tora) -- Part: 1 (Positive) -- Command: 193 -- Text
Previous Command -- Next Command

The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

193 - INCLUDING A PADDLE AMONG WAR IMPLEMENTS

Deuteronomy 23:13-14 -- 13 “And you shall have an implement among your equipment, and when you sit down outside, you shall dig with it and turn and cover your refuse. 14 For the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and give your enemies over to you; therefore your camp shall be holy, that He may see no unclean thing among you, and turn away from you.”

The fulfillment of the preceding commandment devolves upon the general, whereas the duty prescribed in this commandment rests upon each individual member of the army. It is for this reason that Maimonides counts the two as distinct commandments. The author of the Sefer Mitzvoth Hagadol, however, counts them as only one.
