223 - GATHERING A SELF-GROWN FRUIT IN THE SEVENTH YEAR AS IN AN ORDINARY YEAR

Leviticus 25:5 -- “What grows of its own accord of your harvest you shall not reap, nor gather the grapes of your untended vine, for it is a year of rest for the land.”

“When selling fruit of the seventh year one must not sell it in bulk, by weight or number, so that it should not appear that he is doing business with fruit of the seventh year. What little he sells he should sell in a lump (or measuring by sight), in order to let it be known that the fruit is ownerless. With the money he obtains he should buy other food.”*
