Sura al-Baqara 2:3 (Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

2:3 who believe in the mysteries [of faith], who observe the appointed times of prayer, and distribute [alms] out of what we have bestowed on them;

Afterwards ye turned back, except a few of you, and retired afar off.

2:177 It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces [in prayer] towards the east and the west, but righteousness is of him who believeth in God and the last day, and the angels, and the scriptures, and the prophets; who giveth money for [God's] sake unto his kindred, and unto orphans, and the needy, and the stranger, and those who ask, and for redemption of captives; who is constant at prayer, and giveth alms; and of those who perform their covenant, when they have covenanted, and who behave themselves patiently in adversity, and hardships, and in time of violence: These are they who are true, and these are they who fear [God].

2:238 Carefully observe the [appointed] prayers, and the middle prayer, and be [assiduous therein], with devotion towards God.

2:239 But if ye fear [any danger, pray] on foot or on horseback; and when ye are safe, remember God, how he hath taught you what as yet ye knew not.

3:101 And how can ye be infidels, when the signs of God are read unto you, and his apostle is among you? But he who cleaveth firmly unto God, is already directed into the right way.

3:135 And who, after they have committed a crime, or dealt unjustly with their own souls, remember God, and ask pardon for their sins, - for who forgiveth sins except God? - and persevere not in what they have done knowingly:

3:191 who remember God standing, and sitting, and [lying] on their sides; and meditate on the creation of heaven and earth, [saying], o Lord, thou hast not created this in vain; far be it from thee: Therefore deliver us from the torment of [hell] fire:

4:101 When ye march [to war] in the earth, it shall be no crime in you if ye shorten your prayers, in case ye fear the infidels may attack you; for the infidels are your open enemy.

4:102 But when thou, [o prophet], shalt be among them, and shalt pray with them, let a party of them arise to prayer with thee, and let them take their arms; and when they shall have worshipped, let them stand behind you, and let another party come that hath not prayed, and let them pray with thee, and let them be cautious and take their arms. The unbelievers would that ye should neglect your arms and your baggage [while ye pray], that they might turn upon you at once. It shall be no crime in you, if ye be incommoded by rain, or be sick, that ye lay down your arms; but take your [necessary] precaution: God hath prepared for the unbelievers an ignominious punishment.

4:103 And when ye shall have ended [your] prayer, remember God, standing, and sitting, and [lying] on your sides. But when ye are secure [from danger], complete [your] prayer; for prayer is commanded the faithful, [and] appointed [to be said] at the stated times.

5:6 O true believers, when ye prepare your selves to pray, wash your faces, and your hands unto the elbows; and rub your heads, and your feet unto the ancles; and if ye be polluted by having lain with a woman, wash your selves [all over]. But if ye be sick, or on a journey, or any of you cometh from the privy, or [if] ye have touched women, and ye find no water, take fine clean sand, and rub your faces and your hands therewith; God would not put a difficulty upon you; but he desireth to purify you, and to compleat his favour upon you, that ye may give thanks.

5:12 God formerly accepted the covenant of the children of Israel, and we appointed out of them twelve leaders: And God said, verily I am with you: If ye observe prayer, and give alms, and believe in my apostles, and assist them, and lend unto God on good usury, I will surely expiate your evil [deeds] from you, and I will lead you into gardens, wherein rivers flow: But he among you who disbelieveth after this, erreth from the strait path.

5:58 [nor those who], when ye call to prayer, make a laughing-stock and a jest of it, this [they do], because they are people who do not understand.


Sura al-An'am 6:63 (Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

6:63 Say, who delivereth you from the darkness of the land, and of the sea, [when] ye call upon him humbly and in private, [saying], verily if thou deliver us from these [dangers], we will surely be thankful?


Sura al-A'raf 7:31 (Hanf+Malik) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

7:31 O children of Adam, take your decent apparel at every place of worship, and eat and drink, but be not guilty of excess; for he loveth not those who are guilty of excess.

7:55 Call upon your Lord humbly and in secret; for he loveth not those who transgress.


Sura al-A'raf 7:204 (Malik+Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

7:204 And when the Koran is read, attend thereto, and keep silence; that ye may obtain mercy.

9:5 And when the months [wherein ye are] not allowed [to attack them] shall be past, kill the idolaters wheresoever ye shall find them, and take them [prisoners], and besiege them, and lay wait for them in every convenient place. But if they shall repent, and observe the appointed times of prayer, and pay the legal alms, dismiss them freely; for God [is] gracious [and] merciful.

9:11 Yet if they repent, and observe the appointed times of prayer, and give alms, [they shall be deemed] your brethren in religion. We distinctly propound [our] signs unto people who understand.

9:84 Neither do thou ever pray over any of them who shall die, neither stand at his grave; for that they believed not in God and his apostle, and die in their wickedness.

Sura Hud 11:114 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

11:114 Take alms of their substance, that thou mayest cleanse them, and purify them thereby; and pray for them; For thy prayers shall be a security [of mind] unto them; and God [both] heareth [and] knoweth.

13:22 and who persevere out of a [sincere] desire to please their Lord, and observe the stated times of prayer, and give alms out of what we have bestowed on them, in secret and openly, and who turn away evil with good: The reward of these [shall be] paradise,


Sura Ibrahim 14:37 (Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

14:37 O Lord, I have caused [some] of may offspring to settle in an unfruitful valley, near thy holy house, o Lord, that they may be constant at prayer. Grant, therefore, that the hearts of some men may be affected with kindness towards them; and do thou bestow on them [all sorts] of fruits; that they may give thanks.


Sura al-Hijr 15:98 (Malik) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

15:98 but do thou celebrate the praise of thy Lord; and be one of those who worship;


Sura al-Nahl 16:87 (Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

16:87 And on that day shall [the wicked] offer submission unto God; and the [false deities] which they imagined shall abandon them.


Sura al-Nahl 16:98 (Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

16:98 When thou readest the Koran, have recourse unto God, [that he may preserve thee] from Satan driven away with stones:


Sura al-Isra' 17:78 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

17:78 Regularly perform [thy] prayer at the declension of the sun, at the first darkness of the night, and the prayer of day-break; for the prayer of day-break is born witness unto [by the angels].


Sura al-Isra' 17:79 (Hanf+Shaf+Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

17:79 And watch [some part] of the night in the same [exercise], as a work of supererogation for thee; peradventure thy Lord will raise thee to an honourable station.


Sura al-Isra' 17:107 (Hanf+Malik) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

17:107 Say, whether ye believe therein, or do not believe, verily those who have been favoured with the knowledge [of the scriptures which were revealed] before it, when the same is rehearsed unto them, fall down on [their] faces, worshipping,


Sura al-Isra' 17:110 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

17:110 Say, call upon God, or call on the Merciful: By which soever [of the two names] ye invoke [him, it is equal]; for he hath most excellent names. Pronounce not thy prayer aloud, neither pronounce it with two low a voice, but follow a [middle] way between these:


Sura Maryam 19:59 (Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

19:59 But a succeeding generation have come after them, who neglect prayer, and follow [their] lusts; and they shall surely fall into evil:


Sura Taha 20:14 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

20:14 Verily I am God; there is no god beside me: Wherefore worship me, and perform [thy] prayer in remembrance of me.


Sura Taha 20:130 (Shaf+Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

20:130 Wherefore do thou, [o Mohammed], patiently bear that which they say; and celebrate the praise of thy Lord before the rising of the sun, and before the setting thereof, and praise [him] in the hours of the night, and in the extremities of the day, that thou mayest be well pleased [with the prospect of receiving favour from God].


Sura Taha 20:132 - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

20:132 Command thy family [to observe] prayer; and do thou persevere therein. We require not of thee [that thou labour to gain necessary] provisions [for thy self and family]: We will provide for thee; for the [prosperous] issue [shall attend] on piety.


Sura al-Hajj 22:35 (Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

22:35 whose hearts, when mention is made of God, are struck with fear; and [unto] those who patiently endure that which befalleth them; and who duely perform their prayers, and give alms out of what we have bestowed on them.


Sura al-Hajj 22:77 (Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

22:77 O true believers, bow down, and prostrate your selves, and worship your Lord; and work righteousness, that ye may be happy:

22:78 And fight in defence of God's true religion, as it behoveth [you] to fight for the same. He hath chosen you, and hath not imposed on you any difficulty in the religion [which he hath given you], the religion of your father Abraham: He hath named you Moslems heretofore, and in this [book]; that [our] apostle may be a witness against you [at the day of judgement], and that ye may be witnesses against [the rest] of mankind. Wherefore be ye constant at prayer; and give alms: And adhere firmly unto God. He is your master; and he is the best master, and the best protector.

23:1 Now are the true believers happy:

23:2 Who humble themselves in their prayer,

23:9 and who observe their [appointed times of] prayer:

24:36 In the houses which God hath permitted to be raised, and that his name be commemorated therein: Men celebrate his praise in the same morning and evening,

24:56 Observe prayer, and give alms, and obey the apostle; that ye may obtain mercy.

25:58 And do thou trust in him who liveth, and dieth not; and celebrate his praise: - He is sufficiently acquainted with the faults of his servants:

25:64 And who pass the night adoring their Lord, and standing up [to pray unto him];


Sura al-'Ankabut 29:45 (Hanf+Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

29:45 Rehearse that which hath been revealed unto thee of the book [of the Koran]: And be constant at prayer; for prayer preserveth [a man] from filthy crimes, and [from] that which is blamable; and the remembring of God is surely a most important [duty]. God knoweth that which ye do.

30:31 [And be ye] turned unto him, and fear him, and be constant at prayer, and be not idolaters.

33:32 O wives of the prophet, ye are not as other women: If ye fear God, be not too complaisant in speech, lest he should covet, in whose heart is a disease [of incontinence]; but speak the speech which is convenient.


Sura Fatir 35:18 - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

35:18 A burthened [soul] shall not bear the burthen of another: And if a heavy-burthened [soul] call [on another] to bear part of its [burthen], no part thereof shall be born [by the person who shall be called on], although he be [ever so nearly] related. Thou shalt admonish those who fear their Lord in secret, and are constant at prayer: And whoever cleanseth himself [from the guilt of disobedience] cleanseth himself to [the advantage of] his own soul; for all shall be assembled before God [at the last day].

35:29 Verily they who read the book of God, and are constant at prayer, and give alms out of what we have bestowed on them, [both] in secret and openly, hope for a merchandize which shall not perish:

40:60 Your Lord saith, call upon me; [and] I will hear you: But they who proudly disdain my service, shall enter with ignominy into hell.


Sura Fussilat 41:37 (Hanf+Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

41:37 Among the signs [of his power are] the night, and the day, and the sun, and the moon. Worship not the sun, neither the moon: But worship God, who hath created them; if ye serve him.


Sura al-Shura 42:38 (Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

42:38 and who hearken unto their Lord, and are constant at prayer, and whose affairs [are directed by] consultation among themselves, and who give [alms] out of what we have bestowed on them;


Sura Muhammad 47:19 (Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

47:19 Know, therefore, that there is no god but God: And ask pardon for thy sin, and for the true believers both men and women. God knoweth your busy employment [in the world], and the place of your abode [hereafter].


Sura Muhammad 47:33 (Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

47:33 O true believers, obey God; and obey the apostle: And render not your works of no effect.


Sura Qaf 50:39 (Hanf+Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

50:39 Wherefore patiently suffer what they say; and celebrate the praise of thy Lord before sun-rise, and before sun-set,


Sura Qaf 50:40 (Hanf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

50:40 and praise him [in some part] of the night: And [perform] the additional parts of worship.


Sura al-Waqi'a 56:74 (Malik+Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

56:74 Wherefore praise the name of thy Lord, the great [God].


Sura al-Jumu'a 62:9 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

62:9 O true believers, when ye are called to prayer on the day of the assembly, hasten to the commemoration of God, and leave merchandizing. This [will be] better for you, is ye knew [it].

62:10 And when prayer is ended, then disperse yourselves through the land [as ye list], and seek [gain] of the liberality of God: And remember God frequently, that ye may prosper.

70:22 Except those who are devoutly given,


Sura Nuh 71:10 (Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

71:10 And I said, beg pardon of your Lord; for he is inclined to forgive:


Sura al-Jinn 72:2 (Hanf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

72:2 which directeth unto the right institution: Wherefore we believe therein, and we will by no means associate any [other] with our Lord.


Sura al-Jinn 72:3 (Hanf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

72:3 He - may the majesty of our Lord be exalted! - hath taken no wife, nor [hath he begotten] any issue.


Sura al-Jinn 72:6 (Hanf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

72:6 And there are certain men who fly for refuge unto certain of the genii; but they increase their folly and transgression:


Sura al-Jinn 72:18 (Malik+Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

72:18 Verily the places of worship [are set apart] unto God: Wherefore invoke not any [other therein] together with God.


Sura al-Jinn 72:20 (Malik) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

72:20 Say, verily I call upon my Lord only, and I associate no [other god] with him.


Sura al-Muzzammil 73:1 (Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

73:1 O thou wrapped up,


Sura al-Muzzammil 73:2 (Malik+Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

73:2 arise [to prayer, and continue therein] during the night,


Sura al-Muzzammil 73:3 (Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

73:3 except a small part; [that is to say, during] one half thereof: Or do thou lessen the same a little,


Sura al-Muzzammil 73:6 (Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

73:6 Verily the rising by night is more efficacious for stedfast continuance [in devotion], and more conducive to decent pronunciation:


Sura al-Muzzammil 73:7 (Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

73:7 For in the day-time thou hast long employment.


Sura al-Muzzammil 73:8 (Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

73:8 And commemorate the name of thy Lord: And separate thy self unto him, renouncing worldly vanities.


Sura al-Muddaththir 74:3 (Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

74:3 and magnify thy Lord.


Sura al-Qiyama 75:18 (Malik) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

75:18 But when we shall have read the same [unto thee by the tongue of the angel], do thou follow the reading thereof:


Sura al-Insan 76:25 (Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

76:25 And commemorate the name of thy Lord, in the morning, and in the evening:


Sura al-Mursalat 77:48 (Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

77:48 And when it is said unto them, bow down; they do not bow down.


Sura al-Naba' 78:15 (Shaf) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

78:15 that we may thereby produce corn, and herbs,


Sura al-Inshiqaq 84:21 (Hanf+Hanb) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)

84:21 and that, when the Koran is read unto them, they worship not?

87:1 Praise the name of thy Lord, the most high;

87:15 and who remembreth the name of his Lord, and prayeth.
