9.4. Nominal ChristianityMany who confess to be Christians don’t live according to the precepts of Christianity as set out in the Bible, nor do they see the need to. Nominal Christians consider Christianity to be nothing more than going to church every now and then and calling themselves Christians. Others take it to be some kind of mystical experience which is unique to the individual rather than accepting the objective truth of the Bible. Such people clearly cannot preach God’s word to others as they themselves do not accept its truth. As Christ put it, “[y]ou are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.” (Matthew 5:13)
