17. Understanding Islam
SECTION FOUR: UNDERSTANDING ISLAMIC BARRIERS TO THE GOSPEL
CHAPTER NINE: BARRIERS FOR CHRISTIANS TO OVERCOME WHEN EVANGELISING MUSLIMS

9.11. Ignorance of Islamic beliefs

Most Christians have very little knowledge of how Muslims think or reason. We don’t know much about the psychology of Muslims, their way of reasoning, what religion means to them. In the past, the best books about Islam were written by Christians; today most of what is written about Islam by Christians takes one of three forms. It is either pandering or hostile or subjective. We need objective study of Islam from Christian perspectives. This lack of knowledge can make it very difficult for Christians to engage with Muslims when talking about religion.
