17. Understanding Islam
SECTION THREE: UNDERSTANDING THE MUSLIM CHRIST
CHAPTER SEVEN: CHRIST'S MIRACLES IN THE QUR'AN

7.1. Christ Created

Christ says in the Qur’an:

“I will create for you out of clay as the likeness of a bird; then I will breathe into it, and it will be a bird, by the leave of God.” (Qur’an 3:49)

Thus the Qur’an describes Christ as creator; it is very interesting that the Qur’an says Christ created using clay which is the same material Allah used in the Qur’an to create Adam:

“He created man from clay like [that of] pottery.” (Qur’an 55:14)

The idea of Christ doing this by “the leave of God” is very similar to what Christ said in the New Testament:

“Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will.” (John 5:19-21)

The difference is that while the Gospel stresses the unity of the trinity and that Christ came to do the will of the Father, the Qur’an doesn’t explain the miracle but rather just puts it among a list of things Christ did. Stating in the Qur’an that Christ did the will of Allah is totally irrelevant and does not demonstrate that Christ could therefore not have been God but must have been a different person, for Christians never say the will of Christ is contrary to the will of the Father – in fact their will can only be the same!

So we are left with this fact: in addition to Allah, no one else in Islam is given the attribute of creator other than Christ.
