3. The Apocrypha
Deedat then proceeds to make another blatantly false charge when he suggests that the “Protestants have bravely expunged seven whole books” from the Bible (Is the Bible God's Word?, page 9), the books being those that constitute the Apocrypha. It seems that there is very poor information about the Bible at Deedat's disposal for these books are of Jewish origin and the authors never intended to write Scripture, nor have they ever formed part of the Jewish Holy Scriptures, the Old Testament, which we Christians accept as the Word of God. Therefore they have not been expunged from the Bible as Deedat erroneously suggests. Only the Roman Catholics, for reasons best known to themselves, give them the authority of Scripture.
