20. For Readers of the Qur'an
BOOKLET 4 - NAMES AND ATTRIBUTES OF CHRIST IN THE QUR'AN

15) A Slave of Allah (عبد الله)

Four verses of the Qur'an state that the Son of Mary is a slave of his Lord. The Old Testament prophecy of Isaiah gives foreknowledge of this fact and describes Allah's predestined plan for Christ, His slave. Concerning this slave of the LORD, Isaiah wrote, "3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Like one from whom men hide their face he was despised, and we did not esteem him. 4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon him, and by his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, everyone, to his own way; but the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all." (Isaiah 53:3-6) The Son of Mary confirmed this prophecy, testifying of himself, that "the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." (Matthew 12:18-21; 20:28)
