The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

69 - THE FIXED SIN-OFFERING

Leviticus 4:27-28 -- 27 "If anyone of the common people sins unintentionally by doing something against any of the commandments of the LORD in anything which ought not to be done, and is guilty, 28 or if his sin which he has committed comes to his knowledge, then he shall bring as his offering a kid of the goats, a female without blemish, for his sin which he has committed."

In the Mishneh Torah, Maimonides enumerates forty-three sins, which if committed unintentionally entail a Fixed Sin-offering.*

* Mishneh Torah, Korbanoth, Hilchoth Shegagoth I, 4

It should be noted that repentance was the first prerequisite for atonement, and without it the prescribed offering –whether Sin-offering or Guilt-offering- was of no account whatever, and had to be brought anew.*

* Mishneh Torah, Korbanoth, Hilchoth Shegagoth III, 10
