The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

139 - REDEMPTION OF PROPERTY IN A WALLED CITY

Leviticus 25:29 -- “If a man sells a house in a walled city, then he may redeem it within a whole year after it is sold; within a full year he may redeem it.”

As showing the determination of the sages to make the law serve the ends of justice, the following Mishnah, in connection with this commandment, is of interest: “Formerly the buyer used to hide himself on the last day of the twelve months, so that (the house) might be his for ever; but Hillel the Elder ordained that he (who had sold it) could deposit his money in a chamber, and break down the door and enter, and that the other, when he would, might come and take his money.”*
