The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

215 - THE LAW OF CIRCUMCISION

Genesis 17:10 -- “This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised”
Genesis 17:14 -- “And the uncircumcised male child, who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.”

“Rabbi says: Great is circumcision, for despite all the religious duties which Abraham our father fulfilled, he was not called ‘perfect’ until he circumcised himself, as it is written, walk before Me and be blameless (Genesis 17:1).”*

* Ned. 31b

“There is however, another important object in this commandment. It gives to all members of the same faith, i.e. to all believers in the Unity of God, a common bodily sign, etc. Circumcision is likewise the symbol of the covenant which Abraham made in connection with the belief in God’s Unity. So everyone who is circumcised enters the covenant of Abraham to believe in the Unity of God, in accordance with the words of the Law, to be God to you and your descendants after you (Genesis 17:7).”*

* Moreh Nebuchim III, 49

The rite of circumcision, if performed on the eighth day after the birth of the child, as Scripturally provided (Genesis 17:12; Leviticus 12:3) overrides the Sabbath and all holidays. If, however, it is delayed, for whatever reason, neither Sabbath nor festival may be violated in performing the rite.”´*

* Mishneh Torah, Ahabah, Hilchoth Milah I, 9
