Scripture prescribed the punishment, namely death, for this offence. According to the Sanhedrim, this death is by strangulation, because of the general rule that where Scripture prescribes the death penalty without more precise definition, strangulation is intended.* * Sanh. 89a (Sonc. ed. p. 591)
