The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 2 - The 365 Prohibitions of the Tora

49 - FAILING TO OBSERVE THE LAW CONCERNING THE SEVEN NATIONS

Deuteronomy 20:16-17 -- 16 “But of the cities of these peoples which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance, you shall let nothing that breathes remain alive, 17 but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hittite and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, just as the LORD your God has commanded you”

The primary object of the commandment is the extinction of the idolatrous practices of the Seven Nations, for “Once they forswore idolatry they were to be spared.”.* In the words of Maimonides: “The object of this commandment, as is distinctly stated, is to extinguish that false opinion, in order that other men shall not be corrupted by it any more.”**
