91 - DEDICATING BLEMISHED BEASTS TO BE OFFERED UPON THE ALTAR


Leviticus 22:20 -- “Whatever has a defect, you shall not offer, for it shall not be acceptable on your behalf.”

In the “Mishneh Torah”, Maimonides states that the violation of this commandment entails the penalty of whipping even though it involved no act, since the mere dedication of a blemished beast, as an offering, constitutes “a mark of disrespect to the sacred things of the sanctuary.”*
