The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 2 - The 365 Prohibitions of the Tora

208 - A NAZIRITE RENDING HIMSELF UNCLEAN NY ENTERING A HOUSE CONTAINING A CORPSE

Numbers 6:6 -- “All the days that he separates himself to the LORD he shall not go near a dead body.”

The Gemara of Nazir says explicitly: “Scripture, speaking of the Nazirite, makes the comprehensive statement, He shall not make himself unclean; when it adds, he shall not go near a dead body, its intention is to prohibit separately defilement by contact and entering a house containing a corpse.”*

* Nazir, 42b. (Sonc. ed. p. 154)

“A high priest or a Nazirite may not defile themselves by contact with their dead kindred, but they may defile themselves with a meth mitzvah (i.e. a neglected corpse).” If they were walking by the way and found a meth mitzvah, the Nazirite should attend to his burial but not the high priest, since the sanctity of the Nazirite is not a lifelong sanctity, like that of the high priest.*

* Nazir 47a
