222 - REAPING A SELF-GROWN PLANT IN THE SEVENTH YEAR AS IN AN ORDINARY YEAR

Leviticus 25:5-6 -- 5What grows of its own accord of your harvest you shall not reap, nor gather the grapes of your untended vine, for it is a year of rest for the land. 6 And the sabbath produce of the land shall be food for you: for you, your male and female servants, your hired man, and the stranger who dwells with you.”

“If one does reap in the ordinary manner of reapers, as, for example, if he reaps the whole field and puts up the grain in heaps and threshes with cattle, he is liable to whipping. He must reap it little by little, beat it, and eat it.”*

* Zeraim, Hilchoth Shemittah ve-Yobel IV, 1
