BIBLICAL SAMPLE: Here we choose the account about the miraculous passage through the sea, which constitutes the foundational event in the history of the Sons of Israel, in Exodus 14:15-22 -- “15 The LORD said to Moses, ‘Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward. 16 Lift up your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel may go through the sea on dry ground. 17 And I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they shall go in after them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, his chariots, and his horsemen. 18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gotten glory over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.’ 19 Then the angel of God who was going before the host of Israel moved and went behind them, and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them, 20 coming between the host of Egypt and the host of Israel. And there was the cloud and the darkness. And it lit up the night without one coming near the other all night. 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.”
KORANIC SAMPLE: This famous passage from Exodus seems to have influenced six passages in the Koran: Sura al-Baqara 2:50 -- “(It was) then (when) we (i.e. Allah) separated among you the sea, so that we caused you to be saved (from perishing) and we (i.e. Allah) drowned the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh), while you watched.” ---- Sura al-A'araf 7:138 -- “And we (i.e. Allah) caused the Sons of Israel to cross the sea, so they came to a people devoted to idols, which they had. They (i.e. the Sons of Israel) said, ‘O Musa (Moses)! Make for us such that we have a god like the gods they have.’ He (Moses) said, ‘(Truly) you are an ignorant people!’” ---- Sura Yunus 10:90 -- “And we (i.e. Allah) caused the Sons of Israel to cross the sea, so Fir'aun (Pharao) followed them and his soldiers, seeking (their conquest) and enmity, until then (when) drowning attained him, he (i.e. Pharao) said, ‘I have come to believe that there is no god except the one that the Sons of Israel have believed in, and I am one of the Muslims!’ ” ---- Sura Ta Ha 20:77 -- “And (truly) we (i.e. Allah) have sent inspiration to Musa (Moses), (such) that, ‘Go with my (slavish) worshippers (at night), then strike for them a dry road in the sea, not fearing to be overtaken (by Pharaoh) nor anxious (about drowning).’ ” -- Sura al-Shu'ara' 26:63-65 -- “63 Then we (i.e. Allah) have sent inspiration to Musa (Moses), (such) that, ‘Strike with your stick the sea!’ So it was split, so that each part was like a huge towering mountain. 64 Then we brought near the others, 65 and caused the escape of Musa (Moses) and those with him altogether.” -- Sura al-Dukhan 44:30-31 -- “30 And (truly) we have caused the escape of the Sons of Israel from humiliating torture, 31 by Fir'aun (Pharao). (Truly) he was high (and) among the (wanton) spenders (of wealth).”
