The omission of this passage in Genesis 2 from the Koran is symptomatic of a prevalent characteristic of koranic teachings. Contrary to the Bible, the Koran hardly ever includes geographical details. Not even the key places of early Islam (Mecca and Yathrib / Medina) are clearly mentioned in the Koran. The Koran does not mention Eden in connection with Adam and his wife. The Koran omitted the names of the rivers from the garden in Eden and the names of the countries through which they flow. There is no Ur of the Chaldees in the Koran, no Haran, no Shechem, no Jerusalem, no Nazareth. You can never trace the events geographically that are described in the Koran, because no place names are given there.

Why did the Koran omit virtually all place names that can be found in the Bible? I think this question can be answered if we notice the second characteristic omission in the Koran here: Allah in the Koran hardly ever comes down to earth to become Immanuel. He did not plant a garden in Eden. He did not fill any Tabernacle or any Temple with his glory, as Yahweh did in the Bible. And he did not become flesh in Jesus Christ to be our Immanuel as Yahweh did. So, if Allah did not come down to earth, then there are no locations, which Allah has sanctified by living there as Immanuel. Therefore, there is no reason to mention them and their geographical details. Could this be the reason why by far most geographical details are missing from the Koran? I do not know for sure, but it is clear that a Muslim reading the Koran cannot properly imagine, where the events described in the Koran actually happened.

Why did the Koran omit virtually all biblical descriptions of God becoming Immanuel? This can be spiritually explained by noting a difference in character between the God of the Bible and the God of the Koran. The God of the Bible is humble: he chose an insignificant people to become their God (Deuteronomy 7:7-8), he lives in heaven and with those, who are lowly in spirit (Isaiah 57:15), and Christ the almighty Son of God said of himself: “I am gentle and humble in heart” (Matthew 11:29). This humility of the God of the Bible makes it possible for him to leave his glorious abode in heaven and come down to earth to be our Immanuel. None of this can be found in the Koran. There is no trace of humility in Allah as described in the Koran. Rather we read in Sura 59:23 “He is Allah … the King, the Holy One, … the Powerful One, the Proud One (al-Mutakabbir).” Could it be that this pride of Allah is the reason, why he did not become Immanuel? It would be below his dignity to manifest his glory in a small Tabernacle in the desert (Exodus 40:34) or in a Temple house in Jerusalem (2 Chronicles 7:2+3). And it would be below Allah's dignity to be born as an Immanuel in a stable of animals and be laid in a manger as the Son of God was in Jesus Christ (Luke 2:7). Could it be that this non-humility of Allah is the reason, why the Koran systematically omitted all the passages of the Bible, describing God as Immanuel living among his people? From the point of view of the Bible this could very well be the case.
