161 - COUNTING THE OMER


Leviticus 23:15 -- “And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed.”
Deuteronomy 16:9 -- "You shall count seven weeks for yourself; begin to count the seven weeks from the time you begin to put the sickle to the grain.”

“The Feast of Weeks is the anniversary of the Revelation on Mount Sinai. In order to emphasize the importance of this day, we count the days that pass from the preceding festival, just as one who expects his most intimate friend on a certain day counts the days and even the hours. This is the reason why we count the days that pass from the offering of the Omer, between the anniversary of our departure from Egypt and the anniversary of the giving of the Law.”*
