The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

202 - UNLOADING A TIRED ANIMAL

Exodus 23:5 -- “If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying under its burden, and you would refrain from helping it, you shall surely help him with it.”

According to Maimonides the object of the law prohibiting us to cause pain to an animal is “to make us perfect; that we should not form cruel habits; and that we should not uselessly cause pain to others; that on the contrary, we should be prepared to show pity and mercy to all living creatures, except when necessity demands the contrary: Let me eat meat,' because you long to eat meat, you may eat as much meat as your heart desires. (Deuteronomy 12:20)”*
