The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 2 - The 365 Prohibitions of the Tora
89 - OFFERING ANY SACRIFICE OUTSIDE THE SANCTUARY COURT
Deuteronomy 12:13-14 -- 13 “Take heed to yourself that you do not offer your burnt offerings in every place that you see; 14 but in the place which the LORD chooses, in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I command you.”
Willful violation of this prohibition is punished by extinction; one who violates it unintentionally must bring a fixed sin offering.
R. Jacob ibn Chabib cites this commandment as proof of the doctrine that Prayer is greater than sacrifice, since the former may be offered anywhere, while the latter was limited only to the sanctuary at Jerusalem.*
