111 - REDEEMING DEVOTED LAND WITHOUT ANY SPECIFIC STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Leviticus 27:28 -- “Nevertheless no devoted offering that a man may devote to the LORD of all that he has, both man and beast, or the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed; every devoted offering is most holy to the LORD.”

It follows from this and the preceding commandments that things devoted to the Sanctuary are redeemable, the redemption money then belonging to the Temple treasury, and the things redeemed being free for common use. Things devoted to the priests, or things devoted without any statement of purpose, cannot be sold or redeemed before they come into the possession of the priest. Once they come into his possession, they are no longer deemed holy, and he may dispose of them as he pleases.
