227 - SELLING OUR HOLDINGS IN ISRAEL IN PERPETUITY
Leviticus 25:23 -- “The land shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine; for you are strangers and sojourners with Me.”
If land is sold in perpetuity in the Land of Israel, both the buyer and the seller are guilty of breach of this commandment. The sale, however, is invalid, and the land must be returned to the original owner at the Jubilee. It is for this reason that the transgressors are not liable to whipping.*
