The Sharia of Muhammad in the KORAN
Worship 6 - Pilgrimage (hajj)
Sura al-Baqara 2:125 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:125 And when we appointed the [holy] house [of Mecca] to be a place of resort for mankind, and a place of security; and [said], take the station of Abraham for a place of prayer; and we covenanted with Abraham and Ismael, that they should cleanse my house for those who should compass [it], and those who should be devoutly assiduous [there], and those who should bow down and worship.
Sura al-Baqara 2:126 (Hanf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:126 And when Abraham said, Lord, make this a territory of security, and bounteously bestow fruits on its inhabitants, such of them as believe in God and the last day; [God] answered, and whoever believeth not, I will bestow on him little, afterwards I will drive him to the punishment of hellfire; an ill journey shall it be!
Sura al-Baqara 2:144 (Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Qibla (Prayer Direction)
Sura al-Baqara 2:144 (Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:144 We have seen thee turn about thy face towards heaven [with uncertainty], but we will cause thee to turn thy self towards a Keblah that will please thee. Turn therefore thy face towards the holy temple [of Mecca]; and wherever ye be, turn your faces towards that [place]. They to whom the scripture hath been given, know this to be truth from their Lord. God is not regardless of that which ye do.
Sura al-Baqara 2:148 (Shaf) - Qibla (Prayer Direction)
Sura al-Baqara 2:148 (Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:148 Every fact hath a certain tract [of heaven] to which they turn themselves [in prayer]; but for ye strive to run after good things: Wherever ye be, God will bring you all back [at the resurrection], for God is almighty.
Sura al-Baqara 2:158 - Qibla (Prayer Direction)
Sura al-Baqara 2:158 (Hanf+Shaf+Hanb) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:158 Moreover Safa and Merwah are [two] of the monuments of God: Whoever therefore goeth on pilgrimage to the temple [of Mecca] or visiteth it, it shall be no crime in him if he compass them both. And as for him who voluntarily performeth a good work; verily God is grateful and knowing.
Sura al-Baqara 2:189 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:189 They will ask thee concerning the phases of the moon: Answer, they are times appointed unto men, and to [shew the season of] the pilgrimage to [Mecca]. It is not righteousness that ye enter [your] houses by the back parts thereof, but righteousness is of him who feareth God. Therefore enter [your] houses by their doors; and fear God, that ye may be happy.
Sura al-Baqara 2:196 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:196 Perform the pilgrimage [of Mecca], and the visitation of God: And if ye be besieged, [send] that offering which shall be the easiest; and shave not your heads, until your offering reacheth the place of sacrifice. But whoever among you is sick, or is troubled with any distemper of the head, must redeem [the shaving his head] by fasting, or alms, or some offering. When ye are secure [from enemies], he who tarrieth in the visitation [of the temple of Mecca] until the pilgrimage, shall [bring] that offering which shall be the easiest. But he who findeth not [any thing to offer], shall fast three days in the pilgrimage, and seven when ye are returned: They shall be ten [days] compleat. This [is incumbent] on him, whose family shall not be present at the holy temple. And fear God and know that God is severe in punishing.
Sura al-Baqara 2:197 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Sura al-Baqara 2:197 (Hanb) - Tijara (Trade)
2:197 The pilgrimage [must be performed in] the known months; whosoever therefore purposeth to go on pilgrimage therein, let him not know a woman, nor transgress, nor quarrel in the pilgrimage. The good which ye do, God knoweth it. Make provision [for your journey]; but the best provision is piety: And fear me, o ye of understanding.
Sura al-Baqara 2:198 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:198 It shall be no crime in you, if ye seek an increase from your Lord, [by trading during the pilgrimage]. And when ye go in procession from Arafat, remember God near the holy monument; and remember him for that he hath directed you, although ye were before this of [the number of] those who go astray.
Sura al-Baqara 2:199 (Hanf+Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:199 Therefore go in procession from whence the people go in procession, and ask pardon of God, for God is gracious and merciful.
Sura al-Baqara 2:200 (Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:200 And when ye have finished your holy ceremonies, remember God, according as ye remember your fathers, or with a more reverend commemoration. There are some men who say, o Lord, give us [our portion] in this world; but such shall have no portion in the next life:
Sura al-Baqara 2:201 (Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:201 And there are others who say, o Lord, give us good in this world, and also good in the next world, and deliver us from the torment of [hell] fire.
Sura al-Baqara 2:202 (Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:202 They shall have a portion of that which they have gained: God is swift in taking an account.
Sura al-Baqara 2:203 (Malik) - Salat (Liturgical Prayers)
Sura al-Baqara 2:203 (Hanf+Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:203 Remember God the [appointed] number of days: But if any haste [to depart from the valley of Mina] in two days, it shall be no crime in him. And if any tarry longer, it shall be no crime in him, in him who feareth [God]. Therefore fear God, and know that unto him ye shall be gathered.
Sura al-Baqara 2:209 (Hanb) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
2:209 If ye have slipped after the declarations [of our will] have come unto you, know that God is mighty and wise.
Sura Al Imran 3:96 (Hanf+Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
3:96 Verily the first house appointed unto men [to worship in] was that which is in Becca; blessed, and a direction to all creatures.
Sura Al Imran 3:97 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
3:97 Therein are manifest signs: The place where Abraham stood; and whoever entreth therein, shall be safe. And [it is a duty] towards God, [incumbent] on those who are able to go thither, to visit this house; but whosoever disbelieveth, verily God needeth not [the service of] any creature.
Sura al-Ma'ida 5:2 (Malik+Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Sura al-Ma'ida 5:2 (Malik) - Dhaba'ih (Sacrifice)
Sura al-Ma'ida 5:2 (Hanf+Shaf+Hanb) - Sayd (Hunting)
5:2 O true believers, violate not the holy rites of God, nor the sacred month, nor the offering, nor the ornaments hung [thereon], nor those who are travelling to the holy house, seeking favour from their Lord, and to please [him]. But when ye shall have finished [your pilgrimage]; then hunt. And let not the malice of some, in that they hindred you [from entring] the sacred temple, provoke you to transgress, [by taking revenge on them in the sacred months]. Assist one another according to justice and piety, but assist not one another in injustice and malice: Therefore fear God; for God is severe in punishing.
Sura al-Ma'ida 5:89 (Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Sawm (Fasting)
Sura al-Ma'ida 5:89 (Hanf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Sura al-Ma'ida 5:89 (Hanb) - Nikah (Marriage)
Sura al-Ma'ida 5:89 (Hanf+Shaf+Hanb) - Ayman (Oaths)
5:89 God will not punish you for an inconsiderate word in your oaths; but he will punish you for what ye solemnly swear [with deliberation]. And the expiation of such [an inconsiderate oath shall be] the feeding of ten poor men with such moderate [food as] ye feed, your own families withal; or to cloath them; or to free the neck of [a true believer from captivity]: But he who shall not find [wherewith to perform one of these three things], shall fast three days. This is the expiation of your oaths, when ye swear [inadvertently]. Therefore keep your oaths. Thus God declareth unto you his signs, that ye may give thanks.
Sura al-Ma'ida 5:95 (Hanf+Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Sura al-Ma'ida 5:95 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Sayd (Hunting)
5:95 O true believers, kill no game while ye are on pilgrimage; whosoever among you shall kill any designedly, shall restore the like of what he shall have killed, in domestic animals, according to the determination of two just persons among you, to be brought as an offering to the Caaba; or in attonement thereof shall feed the poor; or instead thereof shall fast, that he may taste, the heinousness of his deed. God hath forgiven what is past, but whoever returneth [to transgress], God will take vengeance on him; for God is mighty [and] able to avenge.
Sura al-Ma'ida 5:97 (Hanf+Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Sura al-Ma'ida 5:97 - Dhaba'ih (Sacrifice)
5:97 God hath appointed the Caaba, the holy house, an establishment for mankind; and [hath ordained] the sacred month, and the offering, and the ornaments hung [thereon]. This [hath he done] that ye might know that God knoweth whatsoever [is] in heaven and on earth, and that God is omniscient.
Sura al-Tawba 9:20 - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
9:20 They who have believed, and fled their country, and employed their substance and their persons in the defence of God's true religion, shall be in the highest degree [of honour] with God; and these are they who shall be happy.
Sura al-Hajj 22:25 (Hanf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Sura al-Hajj 22:25 (Shaf) - Jihad (Holy War)
22:25 But they who shall disbelieve, and obstruct the way of God, and [hinder men from visiting] the holy temple [of Mecca], which we have appointed [for a place of worship] unto [all] men: The inhabitant thereof, and the stranger [have an] equal [right to visit it]: And whosoever shall seek impiously to profane it, we will cause him to taste a grievous torment.
Sura al-Hajj 22:26 (Shaf+Hanb) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
22:26 [Call to mind] when we gave the site of the house [of the Caaba] for an abode unto Abraham, [saying], do not associate any thing with me; and cleanse my house for those who compass [it], and who stand up, and who bow down to worship.
Sura al-Hajj 22:27 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
22:27 And proclaim unto the people a solemn pilgrimage; let them come unto thee on foot, and on every lean [camel], arriving from every distant road;
Sura al-Hajj 22:28 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Sura al-Hajj 22:28 - Dhaba'ih (Sacrifice)
Sura al-Hajj 22:28 (Hanb) - At'ima (Food)
22:28 that they may be witnesses of the advantages [which accrew] to them [from the visiting this holy place], and may commemorate the name of God on the appointed days, [in gratitude] for the brute cattle which he hath bestowed on them. Wherefore eat thereof, and feed the needy, [and] the poor.
Sura al-Hajj 22:29 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Sura al-Hajj 22:29 (Hanb) - 'Uqud (Contracts)
22:29 Afterwards let them put an end to the neglect of their persons; and let them pay their vows, and compass the ancient house.
Sura al-Hajj 22:30 (Malik+Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Sura al-Hajj 22:30 - Dhaba'ih (Sacrifice)
22:30 This [let them do]. And whoever shall regard the sacred ordinances of God; this will be better for him in the sight of his Lord. [All sorts of] cattle are allowed you [to eat], except what hath been read unto you, [in former passages of the Koran, to be forbidden]. But depart from the abomination of idols, and avoid speaking that which is false: Being orthodox in respect to God,
Sura al-Hajj 22:32 (Hanf+Malik+Shaf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
22:32 This [is so]. And whoso maketh valuable offerings unto God; verily they [proceed] from the piety of [men's] hearts.
Sura al-Hajj 22:33 (Hanf+Malik+Hanb) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Sura al-Hajj 22:33 - Dhaba'ih (Sacrifice)
22:33 Ye receive various advantages from the [cattle designed for sacrifices], until a determined time [for slaying them]: Then the place of sacrificing them [is] at the ancient house.

Sura al-Hajj 22:36 (Hanb) - At'ima (Food)
22:36 The camels [slain for sacrifice] have we appointed for you as symbols of your obedience unto God: Ye [also] receive [other] advantages from them. Wherefore commemorate the name of God over them, [when ye slay them], standing on their feet disposed in right order: And when they are fallen down [dead], eat of them; and give to eat [thereof both] unto him who is content [with what is given him, without asking], and unto him who asketh. Thus have we given you dominion over them, that ye might return [us] thanks.
Sura al-Hajj 22:37 (Shaf) - Sawm (Fasting)
Sura al-Hajj 22:37 (Hanf) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
22:37 Their flesh is not accepted of God, neither their blood; but your piety is accepted of him. Thus have we given you dominion over them, that ye might magnify God, for [the revelations] whereby he hath directed you. And bear good tidings unto the righteous,
Sura Muhammad 47:28 - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
47:28 This [shall they suffer], because they follow that which provoketh God to wrath, and are averse to what is well pleasing unto him: And he will render their works vain.
Sura al-Fath 48:25 (Hanb) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Sura al-Fath 48:25 (Shaf) - Jihad (Holy War)
48:25 These [are they] who believed not, and hindred you from [visiting] the holy temple, and [also hindred] the offering, being detained, that it should not arrive at the place where it ought to be sacrificed. Had it not been that ye might have trampled on [divers] true believers, [both] men and women, whom ye knew not, [being promiscuously assembled with the infidels], and that a crime might therefore have lighted on you on their account, without [your] knowledge, [he had not restrained your hands from them: But this was done], that God might lead whom he pleaseth into he mercy. If they had been distinguished from one another, we had surely chastised such of them as believed not, with a severe chastisement.
Sura al-Fath 48:27 (Malik+Shaf+Hanb) - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Sura al-Fath 48:27 (Hanb) - Dhaba'ih (Sacrifice)
48:27 Now hath God in truth verified unto his apostle the vision, [wherein he said]; ye shall surely enter the holy temple [of Mecca], if God please, in full security; having your heads shaved, and your hair cut: Ye shall not fear: For God knoweth that which ye know not; and he hath appointed [you], besides this, a speedy victory.
