9.7. Lack of love for Muslims
Due to the long years of suffering under Islamic regimes, and the persecution Christians endured (and still do) under Islam, many Christians fail to bring themselves to genuine love for Muslims. This has two implications. Firstly, there is no motivation. Despite Jesus’s clear commands to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44), our human nature often kicks in and we just don’t want to. Muslims don’t deserve God’s love, we feel. Secondly, how can Christians proclaim God’s love if they themselves are unable to love? How can we be believed when saying we love our enemies when we don’t show such love? What we need is the heart of Christ who reconciled his enemies to God (Romans 5:10).
