22. How can I be a witness for Christ to a Muslim?
Seven types of Muslims and how they can be shown the way to Christ

1. The Aggressive Muslim

Situation: The Qu’ran recognizes no forgiveness toward enemies. For that reason it happens again and again that Muslims attack Christians, because their gospel contains statements contrary to the Qu’ran and because, in the course of history, Christians have caused many Muslims to suffer. This mind-set can be so resolute that it might appear impossible to say something about the gospel. Nevertheless, how might we witness to them about Christ?

Suggestion: Paul wrote: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Rom. 12:21); and Jesus said: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45) Therefore we can concretely counter Muslim aggression by: living out the example of Christ - for the benefit of the aggressive Muslim, by practicing acts of love, humility and joy.

Testimony: My name is Bassam and I come from Egypt. As a young Muslim I was a member of a radical Islamic group. When I observed that the people in my group not only killed their enemies in theory but also in actual practice, I was shocked. I sought for an opportunity to disengage myself from these people. This opportunity came when the majority of them were imprisoned by the government. After that I was totally disoriented and began to take drugs. One day I had a tooth ache. I went to a Christian dentist. He recognized my great distress and did three things that changed me: He closed his practice in order to occupy himself with me; he listened to me for the entire night, until five o’clock in the morning, although I insulted him as a Christian. And finally, with his friendly manner, he persuaded me to work in his practice, since I had studied biochemistry. I later recognized that in his life the three attributes of the Christ God were mirrored: he loved me, his enemy, so much that he listened to me the entire night in his practice; he was so humble that he, as a well-known dentist, was ready to close his practice in order to occupy himself with my miserable situation; and he was so marked by an inner joy that he even took me to work alongside him. He brought me in contact with educated Christians who could answer my Islamic questions. Today I am a Christian and help Muslims near and far to find Christ – who loved His enemies, was humble, and who was able to grant others a share in His joy.
