BIBLICAL SAMPLE: Here we choose the passage from the Gospel, where the birth of Jesus was foretold to Mary, his mother, as we read in
Luke 1:26-35 -- “26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, ‘Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!’ 29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. 30 And the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.’ 34 And Mary said to the angel, ‘How will this be, since I am a virgin?’ 35 And the angel answered her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy -- the Son of God.’ ”
KORANIC SAMPLE: This passage from the Gospel of Luke seems to have influence the following passage in the Koran: Sura Al 'Imran 3:42-48 -- “42 (It was then,) when the angels said, ‘O Maryam (Mary)! (Truly) Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds. 43 O Maryam (Mary)! Be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow down with those who bow down (in ritual prayer).’ 44 That (is) from (i.e. part of) the news of the (unknowably) invisible, which we (i.e. Allah) inspire to you, (O Muhammad). And you were not with them, when they cast their pencils (i.e. lots) as to which of them should be responsible for Maryam (Mary). Nor were you with them when they disputed. 45 (It was then,) when the angels said, ‘O Maryam (Mary)! (Truly) Allah evangelizes you (tells you the good news) about a Word from Him (i.e. Allah), whose name (is) al-Masih (the Christ), 'Isa (Jesus), the Son of Maryam (Mary): eminent in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near (to Allah). 46 He will speak to the people in the cradle (as a baby) and in maturity (as a grown-up man) and will be of the good ones.’ 47 She said, ‘My Lord, how shall I have a child, when no man has touched me?’ He (the angel) said, ‘Such is Allah! He creates what he wills. When he decrees a matter, he says to it, ‘Be!’ and it will be. 48 And he will teach him al-Kitab (the Book) and al-Hikmat (the Wisdom) and al-Taurat (the Torah) and al-Injil (the Gospel).’”
