The Sharia of Moses in the TORA
Part 1 - The 248 Positive Commandments of the Tora

7 - TAKING AN OATH BY GOD'S NAME

Deuteronomy 6:13 -- “You shall fear the LORD your God and serve Him, and shall take oaths in His name.”
Deuteronomy 10:20 -- “You shall fear the LORD you God; you shall serve Him, and to Him you shall hold fast, and take oaths in His name.”
Exodus 20:7 -- “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.”

By this injunction, it is commanded to swear only by His Name (exalted be He), whenever one is required to confirm or deny something on oath, because by so doing he exalts, honors and magnifies Him. According to the Talmud, all transgressions may be forgiven except those involving a false oath. Even where uttered in all innocence, and where it was not in anyone’s power to prevent it, the offender must suffer punishment.
