SECTION SIX: UNDERSTANDING CONVERTS FROM ISLAM
CHAPTER FOURTEEN: SOCIETAL DIFFICULTIES FACED BY NEW CONVERTS FROM ISLAM
14.4. Existing marriage to a MuslimConverts who are already married experience a whole different set of problems. We might have a polygamous man converting with or without one or more of his wives, and he might have children. Or we might have a married woman converting without her husband. Such problems have to be discussed in the local Church and in the context of the wider Church as a whole (it is the sort of discussion that we should be having in our synods and seminaries). But at a local level, we most definitely need to be sensitive to the difficulties this will bring and be prepared to offer practical, emotional and spiritual support. |
